Journalism education and social networks
The WJEC-UNESCO roundtable “Journalism education in the era of social networks and artificial intelligence: digital technologies and ethical values”, organised by the South Ural State University in Chelyabinsk (Russia) and powered by the European Journalism Training Association is coming up (October 15, 2021).
The participants will discuss the changing functions of journalism in society, the advantages and problems of using digital technologies in the modern media environment and professional and ethical values in the era of social networks and artificial intelligence. Moderators : Nico Drok, Deputy Chair of the World Journalism Education Council and Nadia Vissers, Director of the European Journalism Training Association.
The Round Table discussion will be preceded by five presentations about key themes:
- “Teaching professional values in the era of social networks and artificial intelligence”– Maarit Jaakkola, University of Gothenburg (Sweden)
- “Artificial intelligence as one of the factors influencing the development of journalism education in a digital society” – Kamilla Nigmatullina, Saint Petersburg State University (Russia)
- “Digital storytelling as a technology for teaching the specifics of modern content” – Ludmila Makarova, National Research Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, (Russia)
- “Immersive journalism” – Yael de Haan, University of Applied Science Utrecht (Netherlands)
- “Digital inequality and conflict in the new multiplatform space” – Anna Gladkova, Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia).
Among the participants will be lecturers and scientists of leading journalism schools, professional journalists, representatives from the news industry and from NGO’s.
