The Steering Committee of the World Journalism Education Council strongly condemns the violent invasion of Ukraine.
We express our solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine, and particularly with Ukrainian journalists, journalism educators and journalism students, who now find themselves in the middle of a devastating war.
We call on the international community to support, in every possible way, those who now struggle for a free and sovereign Ukraine.
As journalism educators we are concerned that the freedom to communicate is under attack. We call for the protection of journalists reporting on the war and raise our voices against misinformation and laws that suppress media freedom.
We also call on our members to remain committed to our Declaration of Principles of Journalism Education, adopted in Singapore (2007), which emphasizes our obligation to collaborate with colleagues worldwide and to provide assistance and support in any way we can.
